Pretty In Pink

Happy Sunday! Today's post is about this cute pink crochet hat I made from a Melanie K. Ham YouTube Tutorial. I finished it a few days ago and I was so happy. Now I gotta wait for some cooler weather so I can rock it! LOL!

For my full story about this hat see my other blog post. Click Here

Last year, I started going to this craft group at a local church. It was a small gathering of ladies who made all sorts of crafts as a fundraiser for the church. These kind gals welcomed me in and it was a joy to craft with them. One day, a member was showing us this beautiful crochet blanket she was making for her upcoming great grand baby. She was so excited to share with us how she was doing it.

Next thing I know, I had a hook and yarn in my hands! She started teaching me how to make "granny squares."  At first it was a little hard to learn and honestly, I wanted to give up after a few weeks. The ladies were very encouraging so I keep going. Then after lots of practicing, unraveling and starting over, I began to get it. That was truly an accomplishment and a "happy dance" moment.

Several weeks later, I was proudly crocheting away and so glad I learned something new. Below is my first project from the group, a big 'ole "granny square" blanket. I gave it to my mom. She loved it!
Have you ever crocheted? What have you made? Leave a comment below.

If you have never crocheted consider trying it. I was surprised how relaxing and fun it was. I have several articles here on Inspired Me 411 that talk about all the powerful mental and physical ways crocheting helps us especially in stressful times. In fact, it is one of the tools I used to help me last Summer as I was preparing for surgery. That was perfect timing for me to learn a new craft!

My First Diary and 3 Journaling Styles

Welcome! Today's post is about my experience with journaling and three of my favorite styles.  This post was written May 21, 2020. Journaling has been a part of my life since my pre-teen years. Like most girls, I kept a diary and hid it in a secret place. I think I got my first one as a gift and wrote about daily and special events. I remember there was this cute boy I met. I was too shy to tell anyone I liked him so I wrote about it in my diary. It was a safe place to share these new and wonderful feelings. I gotta find that journal and check it out. (Off to go find it!) Look, I found my precious little diary! Although it smells dusty and the paper has yellowed, my young words and thoughts are so sweet! Here is what I wrote May 21st. I was on a school trip to a camp called Rawhide when I was in the 6th grade, I think. "Today at Rawride and my horses name was Chinadoll. Elizabeth was so mean to sha-jauna and them. And she was flirting." LOL! This is so fu...

New Art Collection & Video

Today, I am thrilled to share with you my new art collection called "Inspired Blooms." These 16 painting were made this year, 2024. Last April, we attended a fantastic floral exhibit at South Coast Plaza Mall and I was so inspired. Shortly after this show, I sat down at my art table and starting creating my floral joys.  In this video you will see the Inspired Garden Girls, a portrait and 12 floral arrangements. Check out the video.  Video Link Here Painting these flowers these last four months has filled my heart with such comfort and joy. I hope these happy "Inspired Blooms" bring a smile to your face and peace to your heart like I experienced. Feel free to share this video with a friend, too. Let's spread the flower power! :)

V.P. Kamala Harris & Crocheting

" The new vice president is a crocheter." I was so happily surprised to discover this article in the Washington Post about U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris' craft skills. The title of this story is called, "Vice President Harris is Making Her Mark on the Washington-Area Crochet Scene" by Jura Koncius. Article Link HERE I enjoyed reading this article and seeing the craft community get some well deserved national attention. Take a look at this story and see what you think. If you need some knitting or crochet resources, check our my "Fiber Arts" page here on Inspired Me 411. HERE     Crafts have been a relaxing activity for me and I hope the Vice President inspires others to give this craft a try. Be inspired!
